National Mentoring Month 2021: Celebrating the Power of Mentorship

January is National Mentoring Month and Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters is celebrating the positive changes that occur in youth facing adversity through the power of mentorship. This month, we will highlight impactful Big/Little relationships and the experience of being a volunteer mentor (AKA a “Big”).

I AM A MENTOR DAY

January 7 is “I Am a Mentor Day”. We are asking our Bigs to share why they became a Big and why they continue to inspire our young people. Make sure to follow us on social media as we share our very own Bigs’ inspiring stories.

BIG INFO SESSIONS

In Sedgwick County, we host info sessions for potential Bigs every weekday at 12:15pm. With additional options on every Thursday at 7:30am or 5:30pm as well as every other Saturday at 11am. A KSBBBS employee will contact you to schedule a time that works best with your schedule after you fill out an online inquiry form. Below are unique opportunities to learn more.

Join us on January 11 at 6:15pm for a Facebook Live BIG info session! This live info session is a great opportunity to learn more about our mentoring programs and why you already have what it takes to become a mentor. Click here for more details in our Facebook event (relevant for residents in Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, Reno, Cowley, and Sumner counties).

Register here for our info session webinar to be held on January 28 at 12:15pm through GoToWebinar. The webinar is a 30-minute presentation with video testimonials from Bigs and Littles in our program and explains the thorough process of becoming a Big (relevant for residents in Sedgwick, Butler, Harvey, Reno, Cowley, and Sumner counties).

For info session opportunities in other Kansas counties, please contact your location office.

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY OF SERVICE

On January 18, please stand with us as we honor Dr. King through volunteerism. Volunteering to become a mentor to youth amplifies the voices of our communities’ future leaders.

THANK YOUR MENTOR DAY

January 29 is “Thank Your Mentor Day”. All month long, we will be sharing how mentoring has impacted the lives of our youth and their families. Look for photos, videos, and testimonials on social media and our website.

By becoming a Big, you are helping a youth facing adversity realize that they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and that they do have the potential to succeed.

Will you join us? Click here to get started.
