KSBBBS Provides Virtual Learning Options for Potential Volunteers

Throughout the year 2020, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters (KSBBBS) has been conducting virtual information sessions for those interested in becoming a volunteer mentor (AKA a “Big”). Potential volunteers are contacted to schedule an information session after they fill out an inquiry form online.

In these virtual information sessions, potential volunteers learn more about the needs of youth facing adversity, hear testimonials from Bigs in the program, discover how mentoring benefits the community, and get questions answered about being involved with the program. Attending an information session is the first step in the process of becoming a “Big”. The full virtual information session for KSBBBS Serving Sedgwick County can be viewed on our YouTube channel.

Big and Little matches enrolled in the KSBBBS one-to-one mentoring program have the option to either meet in-person with safety protocols in place, or stay connected virtually, or through traditional communication such as snail mail.

The evidence-based mentorship program through Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters helps youth stop cycles of adversity such as poverty or substance abuse. It also helps increase their academic success, self-confidence, healthy behaviors, and their likelihood to graduate high school.

There are hundreds of youth (AKA “Littles”) across the state who are still waiting for a Big Brother or Sister. All they need is support, guidance and friendship from someone like you. Kansans who are interested in learning more are encouraged to fill out an inquiry form online.
