Check out our #BigSpotlight featuring Cowley County Big, Eric Burr!
Eric has been matched with his Little, Brody, since November 8, 2017.
What do you love most about being a Big?
What I love most is the opportunity to be a mentor.
What is your favorite match activity you have done together?
During his time in middle school, we had the opportunity to attend a presentation by KC Wolf, the Kansas City Chiefs mascot. Brody is a huge KC Chiefs fan and Wolf gave him a challenge coin afterward when we talked with him one-on-one.
Have you guys developed any traditions?
The biggest tradition is talking Chiefs football. It is really what kicks off our conversation each time.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in your Little since being matched?
We have been matched for many years now. The biggest change is that Brody is growing up and we have more mature conversations.
What is one piece of advice you’d give to a new Big or someone considering becoming a Big?
Be flexible. I tend to let Brody decide what we do during our time. It has worked well for us, but be flexible on activities, so your match can have some control.
What would you say are the keys to success for being a Big?
Just be there and show up. Be a good listener and identify times that you can give advice.
What is one thing you hope your Little learns from you?
The value of relationships. I hope he knows that connecting with people and establishing relationships is important.
